Oct 30 -- Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Halloween!

Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the 1978 classic, “John Carpenter’s Halloween,” with a series of HALLOWEEN films on the big screen. The celebration begins in October with the nationwide release of “John Carpenter’s Halloween” and continues through the month with “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” and “Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers” in select theaters. Each of these films will be presented in a striking, new HD transfer and 5.1 audio.

All three of these films will be screened for one ticket price at the Malco Paradiso (584 South Mendenhall) this Wednesday, Oct 30 starting at 7pm.  You won't want to miss this one time opportunity--and what better way to kick off the 2013 Indie Memphis Film Festival that starts the very next day!

More information is on the Malco Website and on the Halloween Screenvision page.

Advance Screening -- RUSH

Join the Memphis Film Society with supporting the new Universal Pictures production RUSH by attending the advance screening of the film tonight, Thursday Sep 12 (7pm) for FREE!  Use this link to RSVP for the screening tonight and to receive two free admissions to the movie.  The screening takes place at the Malco Paradiso theater at 7pm.

RUSH features Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, and Olivia Wilde--and is directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard.  Here is the official synopsis:

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.  Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, RUSH portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed -- handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda.  Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, RUSH follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.  If you make one mistake, you die.

See you at the movies!

2013 Memphis 48 Hour Film Project

It's that time again!  We are two weeks away from this year's competition (July 26-28) and we are stoked!  We are on the cusp of passing our last year's team totals and we are kicking off a new series of mixers tonight to help teams with recruiting their cast and crew.

Today's mixer (Sunday, July 14) will be at the Slider Inn in Memphis at 6pm--and we hope to host a second mixer in the next weeks leading up to the festival weekend.  In the meantime, if you haven't signed up for a team this year, you need to act fast!

This year's event is hosted by The Cove and this spot will act as the venue for our kickoff get-together, the turnin event, and the wrapup party/awards ceremony.  All of these events are included for free with the weekend of shooting--and your film will screen at Malco Studio on the Square on the big screen for you and your family/friends to see.

So sign up today for a team (the cost can be split amongst the members of your team) at the official Memphis 48 Hour Film Project website and get ready for a weekend of exhaustion and fun!

Zero Dark Thirty Mixer

With the new year comes a new direction for the Memphis Film Society.  Last night kicked off the first of this year's quarterly mixers--and with the new "quarterly mixer" program (vs. monthly or bi-monthly in years past) comes a new way to party and mix it up with the Memphis film scene.

In addition to featuring a speaker, we will also focus on a film of particular artistic merit that will be playing soon in Memphis.  This time around that film was Zero Dark Thirty, the new blockbuster from director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker).  Lucky Memphians are being treated to an advance screening of the movie Wednesday, January 9th (7:30pm) at the Malco Paradiso theater and MFS had free passes to the screening to give away and lots of free swag for those attending the mixer (including official ZDT t-shirts, cinema posters, and mini-posters).

Of course, we also had a great speaker on hand, Bard Cole (associate producer of the WKNO television program Professor Ghoul's Horror School), who brought along his co-producer Mike Degnan as a bonus!

There will be three more official mixers this year--and, hopefully, even more opportunities to promote films that are coming to Memphis (and to help spread the word about their screenings).  That said, there are still tickets available for the advance screening of Zero Dark Thirty to purchase at Malco Paradiso--and the movie will be in Memphis for it's wide-release debut this Friday, January 11.  So hit the theater and support this wonderful film.  You can also get more info about the movie by visiting the film's official website.
A big thank you to Fuel Film for supporting last night's mixer, as well as Sony Pictures and Allied Integrated Marketing for bringing Zero Dark Thirty early to Memphis (and for all the free goodies to give to the Memphis film community).  We also want to thank the Hi-Tone for hosting the mixer, Bard and Mike for speaking, and every person who came out and supported the event.

See you all at the next mixer!
